Test Structure

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), in collaboration with the National Testing Agency (NTA), conducts the UGC NET to assess the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professorship in Indian universities and colleges.

Exam Dates: July 26–28, 2025

Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

Duration: 180 minutes (3 hours)

Languages: English and Hindi

Application Deadline: June 23, 2025 (with fee payment by June 24, 2025)

Exam Pattern

The CSIR UGC NET 2025 exam comprises three parts:

Part A: General Aptitude (Common for all subjects)

Total Questions: 20

Questions to Attempt: 15

Marks per Correct Answer: 2

Total Marks: 30

Negative Marking: 0.5 marks for each incorrect answer 

Part B: Subject-Specific Questions

Marks per Correct Answer: 2

Negative Marking: 0.5 marks for each incorrect answer

Part C: Advanced Questions

Marks per Correct Answer: 4 or 4.75 (depending on the subject)

Negative Marking: Varies by subject (e.g., 1.0 mark for Life Sciences) 

Note: The number of questions and specific marking schemes vary by subject. For instance:

Life Sciences: 20 questions in Part A, 50 in Part B, and 75 in Part C

Lectureship/Assistant Professorship: No upper age limit
