The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level eligibility examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers in Central Government Schools, such as Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs), Army Schools, and other schools under the administrative control of the Union Government. CTET is held twice a year and serves as a minimum qualification for aspirants aiming to become teachers at the Primary (Class I to V) and Elementary (Class VI to VIII) levels. It is also recognized by many private schools and state-run institutions across India. Clearing the CTET is not a guarantee of employment but is a mandatory eligibility criterion for applying to teaching jobs in many reputed institutions.
CTET 2025 Exam Pattern
The CTET exam consists of two papers depending on the level the candidate wishes to teach. Paper I is for those intending to teach Classes I to V (Primary Level), and Paper II is for those who wish to teach Classes VI to VIII (Elementary Level). A candidate can choose to appear for either one or both papers.
Paper I (For Classes I–V)

o Child Development and Pedagogy – 30 MCQs
o Language I – 30 MCQs

• Duration: 2.5 hours
• Sections:
o Child Development and Pedagogy – 30 MCQs
o Language I – 30 MCQs
o Language II – 30 MCQs
o Mathematics and Science – 60 MCQs (for Science/Math teachers)

o Social Studies/Social Science – 60 MCQs (for Social Studies teachers)
Additional Notes:
• All questions are Objective Type (MCQs).
• The qualifying marks are 60% (90 out of 150).
• The certificate is valid for a lifetime as per recent CBSE guidelines.

CTET Eligibility Criteria
For Paper I (Classes I–V): Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
For Paper II (Classes VI–VIII): Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of B.Ed or equivalent teaching qualification.
Candidates must meet qualification standards set by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education).
