Test Structure

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), through its Recruitment and Assessment Centre (RAC), has announced the 2025 recruitment for the position of Scientist 'B'. This is a significant opportunity for engineering and science graduates to contribute to India's defense research and development efforts.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Engineering Disciplines: Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) in relevant engineering fields.

Science Disciplines: Master's degree (M.Sc) in relevant science subjects. 

GATE Score Requirement

A valid GATE score from 2022, 2023, or 2024 is required for most disciplines. 


Age Limit

Maximum age: 28 years (with relaxation as per government norms). 


 Selection Process

Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted based on their GATE score and/or educational qualifications.

Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for a personal interview, which is the final selection criterion.

Minimum qualifying marks: 70% for unreserved categories and 60% for reserved categories. 


Salary and Benefits

Pay Level: Level-10 (7th Central Pay Commission)\

Basic Pay: ₹56,100 per month

Gross Salary: Approximately ₹90,000 to ₹1,10,000 per month, including allowances.

Exam Pattern

The DRDO Scientist 'B' exam follows a structured pattern:


1. Descriptive Examination

Paper-I: 300 marks, 3 hours

Paper-II: 300 marks, 3 hours

Total: 600 marks, 6 hours

Note: The syllabus for these papers aligns with the UPSC Engineering Services Examination (Main) for the respective disciplines. 


2. Personal Interview

Weightage: 20% of the total marks

Purpose: To evaluate the candidate's technical knowledge, communication skills, and suitability for the role.


Note: Candidates must qualify the interview to be considered for the final merit list.
