The MCCQE Part I is a national examination administered by the Medical Council of Canada (MCC). It assesses the critical medical knowledge and clinical decision-making abilities of candidates at a level expected of a medical student completing their medical degree in Canada. Passing this examination is a requirement for international medical graduates (IMGs) applying for entry into a Canadian residency program and is also used by some Practice-Ready Assessment programs as an eligibility criterion.
Eligibility Criteria
• Medical Students: Currently enrolled in or have graduated from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
• International Medical Graduates (IMGs): Must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
• Sequence: Must have completed or be in the final year of medical school.
• Application: Apply through the PhysiciansApply.ca portal.
Exam Pattern Overview
• Format: Computer-based examination.
• Duration: 6.5 hours (reduced from 9 hours).
• Structure:
o 230 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided into two sections of 160 minutes each.
o Optional 45-minute break between sections.
• Content: Based on the MCC Examination Objectives, organized under the CanMEDS roles.
