The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a three-step examination series required for medical licensure in the United States. Eligibility Criteria
• Medical Students: Currently enrolled in or have graduated from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
• International Medical Graduates (IMGs): Must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Exam Pattern Overview
Step 1
• Purpose: Assesses understanding and ability to apply important concepts of the basic sciences to the practice of medicine.
• Format: Approximately 280 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), divided into seven 60-minute blocks.
• Duration: One-day exam, approximately eight hours.
• Scoring: Pass/Fail (as of January 2022).
Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK)
• Purpose: Assesses ability to apply medical knowledge, skills, and understanding of clinical science essential for supervised patient care.
• Format: Approximately 318 MCQs, divided into eight 60-minute blocks.
• Duration: One-day exam, approximately nine hours.
• Scoring: 1–300 scale (214 to pass).
Step 3
• Purpose: Assesses ability to apply medical knowledge and understanding of biomedical and clinical science essential for the unsupervised practice of medicine.
• Day 1: Foundations of Independent Practice (FIP) – Approximately 232 MCQs.
• Day 2: Advanced Clinical Medicine (ACM) – Approximately 180 MCQs and 13 computer-based case simulations (CCS).
• Duration: Day 1: 7 hours; Day 2: 9 hours.
• Scoring: 1–300 scale (200 to pass).
